As far back as I can remember the company had annual employee picnic at the Barnes lake house. Each employee family would bring food to share and some of the men would grill hamburgers & hotdogs. Dad (John Barnes Sr) would take folks for rides in the boat. It was one of my favorite family & business activity of each year.
Another favorite memory was as a young teen attending weekly RHTC softball games with cousins Lea (Taylor), Frances (Elliott), and our church basketball coach Mary Hemleb. We knew all the Employee players (Frank Curtis & a guy they called Rabbit were 2 of my favorites) & they were actually pretty good.
