This is my first official day with Lancaster Telephone Company, July 15, 1979. I was already working 40 hours a week as a temp on this very job since 1977, and was so fortunate to be offered a full-time position working the mainframe at the Gay Street building. Network was located upstairs and our only Lancaster business office was downstairs. Housed on the main floor also were our operators, handling long distance, collect, and person-to-person calls.
The mainframe I started on no longer exists, but there are many great memories wiring service orders and working with local testboard on customer troubles. Although I’ve seen a lot of changes through the years, one thing hasn’t changed are the great people I get to work with.
