Frank S. Barnes, Jr. had 66 years of service with Comporium, serving as Chairman of the Board until his death in February, 2012. In one exhibit at the Comporium Telephone Museum, he related the following story:
The operators didn’t call by number on that board, they called by name. If somebody called in and said “I want Mr. Kimmel,” she’d say, “Well, he isn’t at home right now because I saw him go into the restaurant. Do you want me to ring him in there?”
